Make a Difference Within Our Community
Currently, the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation (MSIFN) is looking for an experienced Community Wellness Worker to join our community and work with our members and management team in Scugog, ON on a full-time basis. The hours of this role are Monday to Thursday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, and Friday 8.30 am to 1:00 pm. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required to meet operational needs. Position includes after-hours emergency on-call rotation for child welfare.
Funded through the Indigenous Healing and Wellness Strategy, the Community Wellness Program is designed to support holistic approaches to the promotion of healthy living and prevention of family and community violence. The Community Wellness Worker (CWW) puts the needs of MSIFN community first through implementation of client-driven services through culture-based programming. This may include, but is not limited to, community-based family violence awareness and prevention education campaigns or activities in local settings (i.e. schools) or at local community events (i.e. Pow-Wows and health fairs).
DUTIES:
- Collaborate with the Cultural Coordinator to provide holistic health approaches, including traditional ceremonies and family activities.
- Develop, implement, and maintain strategies to support healthy living and family dynamics.
- Plan and implement community events promoting wellness, such as crisis intervention workshops and health fairs.
- Maintain accurate client records in compliance with case management policies.
- Assist the community in identifying concerns related to healthy living and family dynamics.
- Develop wellness plans with community members that are concrete and attainable.
- Provide participant-based services like healing circles, fitness groups, and nutrition workshops.
- Promote information sharing between Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations to increase access to local services.
- Prepare annual financial budgets, monitor costs, and provide variance reports.
- Prepare reports for the Health & Social Services Manager and external funders as required.
PAY RATE: $38.66/hr (F1)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma in health or social services field required or an equivalent combination of training, education and experience as deemed by the hiring committee.
- Minimum related working experience 1 year and total working experience 1 year
- Minimum of 1-year direct service with children, families and/or communities required
SPECIALIZATION RQUIRED:
- Valid driver’s license and $1M liability insurance
- CPIC acceptable to position upon conditional offer
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, traditions, teachings, community dynamics
- Knowledge of legislation governing First Nations
- Advanced Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access, Outlook,
email, internet - Knowledge of Privacy legislation
- Advanced oral and written communication skills
- Excellent team player
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Work experience with a First Nation or Indigenous Organization
CONSIDERED AN ASSET:
- Bachelor's degree in health or social services field
- Life Skills Coaching Certificate
