Make a Difference Within Our Community
Currently, the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation (MSIFN) is looking for an experienced Grounds Maintenance Seasonal Labourer to join our community and work with our members and management team in Scugog, ON on a Fixed-Term Contract basis starting ASAP to October 31, 2025. The hours of this role are Monday to Thursday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, and Friday 8.30 am to 1:00 pm. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required to meet operational needs.
KEY ACTIVITIES:
- Spread topsoil, plant flowers, grass, shrubs and trees and perform other duties to assist with the construction of landscape and related structures on MSIFN properties
- Cut grass, rake, water lawns and flower beds, weed gardens, prune shrubs and trees and perform other maintenance duties on MSIFN properties as directed by supervisor
- Grass cutting and weed eating on member properties as directed by supervisor
- Operate power mowers, tractors, electric clippers, pruning saws, weed eaters and other landscape maintenance equipment
- Perform other manual labour to clean and maintain landscaped environments
- Assist with Grounds Maintenance during Annual Pow-Wow – third weekend in July
- Prepare grounds for community events
- When required assist with cleaning and set up of indoor community events
- Check, lubricate, refuel and clean equipment and report any malfunctions to Supervisor
- Special projects, assigned tasks and additional regular duties as required by Supervisor
- Position may involve climbing and working at heights, lifting and carrying heavy objects and occasionally working in extreme temperatures
- Involves rotating between all designated MSIFN properties and individual homeowners, as scheduled by Supervisor
PAY RATE: $22.50/hour (K1)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- ½ year related experience and 1-year total work experience preferred
- Grade 10 preferred
- Valid driver’s license and $1M liability insurance preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, traditions, teachings, community dynamics and previous related experience on a First Nation would be considered an asset
- Current First Aid, CPR and/or WHMIS certification would be considered an asset
- Previous grounds maintenance experience would be considered an asset
- CPIC/VSS acceptable to position upon conditional offer
