Make a Difference Within Our Community

Currently, the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation (MSIFN) is looking for an experienced Healthy Lifestyle Coordinator to join our community and work with our members and management team in Scugog, ON on a full-time basis. The hours of this role are Monday to Thursday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, and Friday 8.30 am to 1:00 pm.  The Healthy Lifestyle Coordinator is required to be onsite Monday to Friday. 

As our new Healthy Lifestyle Coordinator, you will report to the Health and Social Services Manager and will be responsible for providing holistic health programs and services with an emphasis on addictions and mental health care and services to members.    

Your typical responsibilities include: 

The Healthy Lifestyles Coordinator is responsible to provide holistic health programs and services with an emphasis on addictions and mental health to the MSIFN through traditional healing alternatives are available for community members.

Key activities:

  • Provide holistic health programs and services with a focus on addictions and mental health
  • Utilize cultural and traditional teachings to assist clients in improving their mental health
  • Conduct workshops, lectures, and video nights to promote mental health awareness
  • Perform home visits to offer personalized support and guidance
  • Develop and distribute promotional materials related to health and wellness
  • Offer counseling services to individuals and families
  • Coordinate various health programs and initiatives
  • Manage cases and provide ongoing support to clients
  • Educate families and parents on health-related topics
  • Conduct outreach services to engage with the community
  • Provide family support and advocacy services
  • Make referrals to other health services and professionals as needed
  • Collaborate with other departments and organizations to enhance service delivery
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of client interactions and program activities
  • Participate in professional development and training opportunities to stay updated on best practices 

 

 

PAY RATE:                              $37.53/hr (F1)

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   

  • Completion of a college diploma in Social Services or a Bachelor of Social Work is required.
  • Minimum three (3) years of related work experience and minimum five (5) years of total work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as deemed by the hiring panel. 
  • Preferred work experience with a First Nation or Indigenous Organization 

 

Other related skills required: 

  • Valid driver’s license and $1M liability insurance
  • CPIC/VSS acceptable to position upon conditional offer
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, traditions, teachings, and community dynamics
  • Knowledge of legislation governing First Nations
  • Knowledge of financial budgeting processes
  • Familiar with office machines including computers, adding machines, photocopiers, fax machines, phone systems
  • Ability to analyze problems, recommend and implement solutions
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Advanced computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet)
  • Knowledge of Privacy legislation
  • Working with others (team player)

 

Considered an asset:

  • Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers or a willingness to become a registered member of the Ontario College of Social Workers
