Make a Difference Within Our Community

Currently, the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation (MSIFN) is looking for an experienced Senior Information Technology Technician to join our community and work with our members and management team in Scugog, ON on a full-time basis. The hours of this role are Monday to Thursday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, and Friday 8.30 am to 1:00 pm.  The Senior Technology Technician is required to be onsite Monday to Friday.

The Senior Information Technology (IT) Technician's role is to support, maintain, troubleshoot and secure computer systems, networks, hardware, software applications and data that is used by and owned by the MSIFN under the direct supervision of the Information Systems Manager (IS Manager). This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware, software and equipment while ensuring optimal network and information security. They will configure and maintain critical information backups and restoration procedures, as well as actively monitor infrastructures for threats and respond to those threats. The person will troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion, provide end user training and assistance where required, and other general duties as assigned.

DUTIES:

KEY ACTIVITIES:         

  • Routinely check and maintain essential IT operations, including computer systems, networks, hardware, software, communications equipment and peripherals
  • Actively monitor computer networks for security threats and/or issues via device management and extended detection and response, and execute when required, an incident response plan
  • IT Asset Management to track and maintain hardware and software inventory, license compliance, and supply chain compliance
  • Configure, secure, maintain and optimize the organization’s WAN connections, including VPN connections, as well as multiple LANs
  • Research and evaluate emerging technologies, hardware, software, and policies/procedures
  • Ensure security of data and network access via administration of identity management and conditional access policies
  • Configure, secure, maintain and optimize organization's SharePoint sites
  • Configure, maintain and optimize data backups and data recovery procedures
  • Supports ISM in developing information technology strategies, policies and procedures by evaluating organizational needs, and assists ISM with enforcing information technology policies and procedures
  • Backup to Communications Officer to maintain and update the organization’s websites and communications tools
  • Train employees on both software and hardware, troubleshoot, and provide technical support when needed
  • Provide IT support to Minogi Corp or other MSIFN subsidiaries as directed by the IS Manager 

PAY RATE:                               $38.66/hour (F1)

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • 3-year diploma in computer science or related field
  • IT or relevant field (Computer Network Administration, Cybersecurity, SharePoint Administration, Microsoft cloud architecture/environment)
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, as deemed appropriate by the hiring panel, will also be considered

SPECIALIZATION REQUIRED:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Cloud environments (Azure/Entra ID/SharePoint/365), Adobe Applications, Windows Operating Systems, and Smartphone Operating Systems (iOS, Android)
  • Knowledge and experience implementing and maintaining various cybersecurity technologies (conditional access, MFA, DNS FW, DMARC, XDR, MDM, etc.) and an understanding of MITRE ATT&CK (all matrices)
  • Demonstrated competency in maintaining and optimizing network infrastructure (e.g., firewalls, security appliances, switching, Wi-Fi, protocols, routing, DHCP)
  • Understanding of regulations surrounding privacy and protection of information in the following environments: personal, health, intellectual property, provincial, federal, First Nation
  • Valid driver’s license and $1M liability insurance
  • CPIC acceptable to position upon conditional offer

CONSIDERED AN ASSET:

  • Experience with Windows Server 2012 R2, 2016, 2019
  • Cloud Services, including Microsoft Office 365 products, Azure Cloud Infrastructure, EntraID
  • Information Technology Project Management
  • Web design and/or Application Development
  • Experience with industrial automation and controls (PLC/SCADA)
  • Work experience with a First Nation or Indigenous Organization
